In Wake County, the sheriff's department has charged him with 71 counts of burglary and one count of safecracking. After Hardman's arrest, Dayton poUce recovered stolen property valued at $1.2 million at five locations. Of that, property ln excess of $350,000 is believed to have been stolen from the Richmond area, police said. "He's a professional burglar," said Dayton police Detective Timothy J. BlUnski.

"He's been doing this aU his life. In my nine years (as a poUce officer), he's the best I've ever seen." Dayton and Henrico poUce said Hardman has confessed to many of the break-ins and during interviews bragged about how he puUed them off.
